The new septic tank and cess pit
emptying and cleaning service now available from Andy Loos
limited
We offer very competitive rates and
normally operate in an area up to 40 miles from our Worcester
base. A similar service is also available from our
Newquay division and covers Cornwall.

Cesspits
Cesspits are normally underground chambers of varying sizes
with a single manhole cover. Older properties will have their
cesspits constructed from brick. Modern properties will have
tanks constructed from fibreglass or other materials. A cesspit
is a sealed tank into which all the property’s effluent drains.
The effluent will also include sink and bath waste and will
require frequent emptying.
Cesspits are usually installed in preference to Septic tanks
because of ground conditions or to remove the potential of
pollution.
Emptying frequency:
There is no rule of thumb that decrees how often a tank
should be emptied. Domestic equipment such as dishwashers
and washing machines discharging into the tank will increase
the frequency of emptying required.
Septic tanks
Septic Tanks are designed to allow seepage into the
surrounding land without causing pollution to the environment.
Effluent enters the system and the flow is reduced through a
series of baffles so that solids sink to the bottom. Smaller
particles float to the surface creating a scum, suspended solids
are removed, and much of the sludge decomposes through natural
anaerobic and aerobic processes. The semi-treated liquor exits
the tank and leaches to nearby land via a soak-a-way system.
Industry standard onion shaped septic tanks are typically
available in three sizes 2800 litres (615 gallons – 4 people),
3800 litres (835 gallons – 10 people), 4600 litres (1012 gallons
– 14 people)
Emptying frequency:
For a septic tank to work efficiently the sludge or
solids must be removed on a regular basis. Frequencies vary
but most systems will require emptying once a year to
maximise the available void.
